Most night spots have installed security scanners at their entrances or have bouncers with hand held metal detectors. Guests are advised to adhere to these checks as they are a precaution for the security for all people in and around the area.
Cell phones and other valuables: Cell phones are the most commonly stolen items and it advisable to always keep it safe in the pocket. If you carry a purse, keep it safely in the pockets and preferably go out in jeans as they hold valuables safer. Do not permit strangers who request to make phone calls using your cell phone. In most cases they are making a run with it.
Do not carry a lot of cash on you. It is advisable to avoid moving with foreign currency. It is also advisable to avoid using foreign exchange as the transactions may be lengthy, and will attract undue attention. Wallets should ideally be carried in the front pockets.
It is advisable not to leave drinks unattended.
As you are around the city, hire a labeled company cab (taxi). While some taxis have metres, others require you to negotiate the fare. Ask the hotel staff to help you get one. You may give a tip if you feel the service is good and may take a phone number so you call the taxi back.
It is advisable that a Ugandan accompanies you especially on your first night out as they will be of immense help.
There is a sizeable number of Police officers on each and every street, in case of any threat or danger, contact the nearest security officer that you see.
